The Work of Arno Rafael Minkkinen – A Master Photographer

The exhibition Obala neba / Taivaanranta / Firmament will open its doors to the public on December 9th in the Museum of Contemporary Art. It will present the most recent works of Arno Rafael Minkkinen that were made during his stay in Croatia, as well as a selection of his past works.

The photographs consist of unorthodox, black and white self-portraits that merge the form of the human body and natural landscape in a pure, consistent and intriguing way. These types of unmanipulated poetic photographs have become his signature sign.

“Minkkinen urges me to see the human body as never before because he uses a strange context, unexpected forms and bending of characters, from a well-thought-out perspective. He puts to the test my assumptions of what I am and what I can do. I’m becoming a story that is read from the bottom up. I’m becoming a pyramid that is balanced on top. I’m becoming a cosmos with the earth above my head and the sky below.”, Alan Lightman said of Minkkinen’s work.

The entrance fee for the exhibition is 15 kuna. On the first day, the entrance for the exhibition will be free and Minkkinen will hold a lecture on artistic inspiration, continuous work, learning and the importance of consistency as well as a brief history of his career. Due to the limited number of seats, you should send an email to [email protected] if you plan to attend. The lecture will be held in English. The exhibition will be opened until January 22nd.
