Continuing the cycle of retrospectives of notable Croatian artists whose oeuvres deserve to be seen again, revalued and their importance positioned in the context of domestic, but also of European art history, Klovićevi Dvori Gallery opened a Nikola Reiser retrospective to mark the centennial of his birth.
The retrospective covers all the stages in the artist’s work and shows about 200 artworks (paintings, portfolios of prints) loaned from numerous museums and private collections. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with reproductions of the works exhibited and original texts by Academician Tonko Maroević, art historian Iva Körbler and exhibition curator Danijela Marković on behalf of the Klovićevi dvori Gallery.
Nikola Reiser was born in Samobor in 1918 and painted continuously from his teenage years, before he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, right up until his death in 2010. Reiser held an important and singular place in post-war Croatian art.
Although he belonged to the generation of Croatian artists who came of age in the early fifties of the twentieth century, and who relied on the experiences of early-twentieth-century avant-gardes by adopting the new, liberated art form of abstraction, Nikola Reiser nevertheless followed his own path and throughout his life nurtured his own, authentic art expression. His work eventually settled around four main themes- portraits, landscapes, still life and figures.
The exhibition stays open until the February 3rd, 2019 and the entrance is 30 HRK.
