J.R.R. Tolkien in Focus of 1st Zagreb Fantasy Convention (June 11th/12th)

On June 11th Zagreb is getting another addition to its geek culture, Zagreb Fantasy Convention, being held at Buena Vista club, Savska street 120. The two main postulates of that culture in the city are SFerakon and Comic Strip Show (CRŠ), both of which are heavily invested in fantasy fandom, but it was never their primary concern, so news about getting a fully fledged fantasy con was received pretty well in the local geekdome.

Since Zagreb has seen a plethora of geek themed events popping up in the past few years that were no more than trend leeching money grabs with no real content, high hopes are set for the first fantasy convention and by the look of

The organizer have announced that the theme of their first edition will be the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, with a lot of additional content for all ages. It will last two days (Saturday and Sunday) and be held in seven different halls, each with its own theme and activities. Castle Keep will hold historical reenactment societies, Lands of Middle-earth will hold content from the main theme, LARP Cave will host Live Action Role Playing groups, Dwarven Hall is the central stage of the convention that will hold the fair and cosplay competitions.

Tinkers Lair will hold lectures and workshops, Dungeon Land will host boardgames and Pathfinder related societies, World of Gaming will have a Heartstone and other Blizzard based tournaments and Hobbit Hole will be a corner for kids.

The festival will be opened on June 11th and 12th, from 10 am until 9 pm, with daily tickets costing 30 kn and two day tickets 50 kn.
