Futurism, Dynamism and Color, an exhibition of the largest collection of art from the Futurism movement ever assembled in Croatia, will be opened tonight (March 1st) at 7 pm at the Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Museum of Contemporary Art for the first time presents to the Croatian public the original works of futuristic painters with around hundred works – mostly paintings, but also sculptures and specimens of graphic and product design and fashion. Artists whose works will be represented at exhibitions such as Carlo Carrà, Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, Achille Funi, Gerardo Dottori, Enrico Prampolini, Robero M. Baldessari, Achille Lega, Gino Severini, Fortunato Depero, Luigi Russolo, Primo Conti, Mario Nannini, Julius Evola, Pippo Rizzo, Alberto de Pistoris, Vittirio Corona and others opened space of artistic freedom at the beginning of the twentieth century and their ideas left a strong mark on both the Italian and world art scene.
A radical, avant-garde movement, Futurism looked to break society free of the staid and old and could be seen not only in painting and sculpture, but also in ceramics, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, urban design, theatre, film, fashion, textiles, literature, music, architecture and even cooking. It rejected ideas and notions of the past, ditching them for fresh and untried new possibilities which emphasized the speed, technology, youth, violence and objects of the modern world. It celebrated man’s ability to overcome nature and natural order.
Curator of the exhibition Futurism, dynamism and color is the Italian art historian Maurizio Scudiero who has, so far, organized over a hundred exhibitions on futurism around the world.
The exhibition is open until 20 April 2019.
