Coming Soon: The New ‘Nutcracker’ by Vladimir Malakhov!

A press conference presenting a new edition of the world’s most performed ballet, P. I. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker was held at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb. Theater manager of the CNT in Zagreb Dubravka Vrgoč, CEO of Wiener Insurance Jasminka Horvat Martinović, Director of the CNT Ballet in Zagreb Leonard Jakovina and choreographer and director of the new Nutcracker, Vladimir Malakhov, all spoke at the press conference. The premiere of the Nutcracker will be staged on November 29th, 2019, with tickets selling starting on November 4th.

“In the last few years the ballet Nutcracker has become an important part of the Zagreb’s cultural offer, which marks an increasing interest of diverse audience every year. We are proud to introduce the new Nutcracker after eight years together with prominent choreographer and director Vladimir Malakhov. The ballet will be performed about twenty times, which is a record number of performances so far”, said Vrgoč at the conference.

The director of the CNT Ballet said that the ballet ensemble is intensively preparing the performance under the direction of the famous Malakhov and that he is happy that the audience will be able to watch the Nutcracker ballet in a new edition. “Following an excellent performance of a Swan Lake, inviting Vladimir Malakhov to stage the new Nutcracker was a logical decision. Not only is Vladimir one of the best dancers and ballet artists of today, he also proved to be an excellent director. He brings a warmer, more demanding and unique Nutcracker to the Zagreb audience, said Jakovina, who announced that he would also perform in the new Nutcracker after a long break from a stage.

Choreographer and director of the new edition of the Nutcracker, ballet artist Vladimir Malakhov, added that he is pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Zagreb Ballet Ensemble once again after Swan Lake. “To direct such a great ballet as a Nutcracker is certainly an exceptional personal and professional challenge. I believe that the Zagreb audience will recognize how much work and love has been invested and enjoy the magical ballet story.” concluded Malakhov.
