Swedish Movie Week at Tuskanac Cinema

Swedish films will be screened at the Tuskanac Cinema in Zagreb from the 20th until 27th January 2016. Swedish movie buffs will be able to see ‘Stockholm stories’; the award-winning drama by Swedish artist Anne Odell, ‘Återträffen’ or “The Reunion”; ‘Hotell’, starring Alicia Vikander, this year’s Oscar nominee for the best-supporting actress in ‘The Danish Girl’; documentary film ‘The Uninvited at Bergman’s’ starring Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, Lars von Trier, Robert De Niro and others. Movies start at 7 pm and 9 pm. For the members of the Croatian Film Association entrance is free of charge. Tickets are 10 kunas, except the first day when only invitations will be accepted. Before the Croatian premiere of “The Stockholm stories”, on Wednesday 20th January at 6:30 pm, the Embassy of Sweden in Zagreb will organize an informal reception for all guests. The ones who come to Tuskanac will be welcomed by Lars Schmidt, the Swedish ambassador to Croatia. This film week is another event organized by the cooperation between the Embassy of Sweden in Zagreb and the Tuškanac Cinema in Zagreb.

Swedish film industry is internationally recognized ever since the appearance of iconic legends such as Ingmar and Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo and Anita Ekberg. Swedish artists have won 25 Academy Awards, the last one in 2012, when Malik Bendjelloul’s ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ was awarded best documentary feature. Sweden annually produces about 60 movies; in 2014 Swedish cinemas sold 16.3 million tickets, and the most watched movie was ‘The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared’.
