Luka Modrić Wins Ballon d’Or!

Croatian football player Luka Modrić ended Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s dominance in the men’s awards and beaten off competition from the likes of Antoine Griezmann and won the most prestigious award in the world of football – 2018’s Ballon d’Or.

Modrić won his third Champions League with Real Madrid, but it was probably his performance as the Croatian captain during the World Cup that has swung the balance. He won the Golden Ball after leading Croatia to the final with a series of exemplary midfield display and became the first Croatian to win Ballon d’Or!

“The best things never come easy,” said Luka after accepting the award and added “it’s a great pleasure to be here around these players. I keep thinking, I’m trying to get used to being part of this group of exceptional players who have won the Ballon d’Or in history. It’s a great pleasure to be part of this group.”

2018 was definitely Luka’s year as he won the FIFA’s Best Men’s Player award this year as well.
