IJF Judo Grand Prix Zagreb 2019

A major International Judo Federation (IJF) Judo Grand Prix Zagreb 2019 event, which will attract around 558 competitors in the men’s and women’s categories will be held 26-28 July at Zagreb’s Dom Sportova sports center.

Today, 25 July, the draw for the Zagreb Grand Prix took place at the Panorama Hotel, adjacent to the tournament’s competition venue Dom Sportova. Croatia has been a pitstop on the World Judo Tour since 2013, with six out of seven events taking place in Zagreb. Hence, a truly established event on the circuit. Proof hereof is the great number of participants at this event who will also be building their confidence on the tatami with the IJF Worlds waiting around the corner.

On behalf of the Croatian Judo Federation I welcome you to Zagreb for this 7th edition of the Grand Prix in Croatia,” Dr. Sanda Ćorak, the President of the Croatian Judo Federation addressed the participants. “We are proud of the development our federation has made during recent years. We are also very competitive and want to be the best host for you. I’m very happy to mention that all final blocks will be broadcast live on national television which will result in a major boost for judo in our country.”

A total number of 558 (332 male and 226 female) athletes from 87 countries will be competing on the tatami for the highest place on the medal podium. The biggest categories for men is the -73 kg weight category with 59 participants and the -63 kg weight category for women representing the highest number of athletes, i.e. 36 judokas.
